RCC Counselor Apprentice Program (CIT)
Objective:
The Objective of the RCC Counselor Apprenticeship Program is to increase the pool of future qualified camp counselors by providing a unique opportunity to learn the essential role that counselors play in a successful camp.
Apprentice Counselors will:
- Learn by example how to successfully counsel a cabin
- Be exposed to how different functions of camp work together as a team
- Be expected to lead various activities by the end of the camp session
- Be expected to provide a sound Christian example to all campers and staff
Qualifications:
- Must be a Christian.
- Must be 16 years old or have completed 10th grade.
- Limited Participation: Up to Director and Chief Counselor discretion, but suggested maximum of 2 boys and 2 girls per camp session.
- Every effort should be made to place Apprentice Counselor as the 3rd Counselor in a cabin with two other experienced Counselors.
- Must attend Senior Camp as a camper during the same year.
- Must submit Staff Application to Chief Counselor or Director.
- Must submit 2 written references/recommendations (including one from Director or Chief Counselor of Senior Camp for current or prior year).
- Director and Chief Counselor make the final decision concerning acceptance into Counselor Apprenticeship Program – applying for program is not a guarantee of acceptance.
Special Requirements During Camp Sessions:
- Must attend Introductory Training Session on 1st day of camp with other 1st time Counselors.
- Must participate in cabin and job rotation as required by Chief Counselor, with suggested rotation to include:
- cabin change mid-week,
- one assignment in Mess Hall assisting in preparation and setup for a meal,
- one assignment in Mess Hall assisting in cleanup after a meal,
- one assignment in Bible Class assisting teacher as needed, and
- one assignment in Chorus assisting Chorus Directors as needed.
- Must adhere to all rules for staff members and any additional rules established by Director or Chief Counselor for Apprentice Counselors.
